How to create a "Realistic basket garden" in Blender

In this tutorial you would learn :
•How to create realistic materials using insane bump.
•How to create believable nature.
•How to use image composition to keep the viewer interested.

Hi guys, today we are gonna talk about how to create a basket garden in blender.
I personally like such miniature gardens.

Being a nature scene it's a bit complex but I would give my 100% to make the process easy.

Here's the finished .blend file and textures:

Feel free to put this render in any scene of your choice and post it in the comments section or email me at sayan.mondal.blender@gmail.com

The Post Processing

Enlarge for better view

I have darkened ( Multiply node ) the background a little bit and then adjusted the colors ( Color Balance node). The color management ( on the right ) was for adding that tint of violet and adjusting the white balance.

Then I moved to GIMP and added the lens glare effect.

How I overcame the obstacles and forced a believable render ?

I always struggled with nature scenes in blender. Being memory and time consuming, it's also very painful to imitate nature in CG. Even after hours, dyas or sometimes months of tireless striving (working overnight), what we get most of the time is a noisy physically incorrect & fake-looking render. This only helps to scare away your viewers.

But then I decided to take it seriously. First I looked for inspiration on Flickr.I forced myself to brain-storm some creative idea but without success.

So, I stepped back from my nature project for sometime. Within some days an  idea clicked my mind. I thought 'what about a garden?'. Eventually I came-across a basket garden's image in Flickr

I resolved to focus on this project till its perfect ( By the way: "art's never finished' ). I jumped into the project and pushed my skills to its extremes. I used to stick to any problem until it's solved and finally it started looking pleasing.

Tip:

I realized that increasing the Light path settings of the render section can make your renders very realistic. Try to keep the max and min number of bounces equal or at least close to push the render further towards realism. Though this would drastically increase render times. So use these settings with caution.

Conclusion

I hope you learnt something from the tutorial. If not then please let me know if you have any suggestion in the comments section below.
